Frequently Asked Questions
Why should we see a chiropractor?
A small amount of pressure on a nerve can cause damage to your nervous system. That’s why all the nerves in your spine are protected by bone. Nerves do not regenerate like normal tissue. Muscle cells have a blood supply that allows for tissues to heal at a quicker rate. Nerve cells have no such supply. A damaged nerve cell takes a long time to heal and often never does. For this reason, it is vital that we protect and take care of our precious nerves. They are the communication network for the entire body. Each organ and tissue communicates through the nervous system and relays information to our brains. Chiropractors make sure there are no blockages or misalignment to the nerve channels. Do we feel if a bone is out of position?
How does it feel if a bone is out of position?
We have a lot of nerves trying to get our attention in our brain. This is why the brain is programmed to filter out all of the extra stuff. We don’t notice the clothes on our bodies throughout the day unless something is irritating us or we purposefully think about it. Likewise, when a bone gets out of position we notice it at first and then it recedes to back ground noise. We forget about it or we may notice and then think that this is a normal part of aging. Eventually, the bone has drifts far enough out of position that our body deems it an emergency. At this point damage has occurred and the body’s nervous system is in danger. This is when a bone out of position becomes a top priority and our body has to go through healing. We feel it as pain and muscle spasm.
How Does a Chiropractor Know if a Bone is Out of Place?
High and Low pressure systems in weather often function similar to misalignments in the spine. You can tell that there is a low pressure system by the fact that it is surrounded by high pressure systems. The actual number on the barometric scale is irrelevant.
This is the same with the bones in our body. The actual position is irrelevant. Chiropractors can tell if a bone is out of position from the position of the bones around it. An adjustment is designed to correct the position of the bone relative to all the bones in the body. The bone can be moved using high or low impact forces. Some of these can be delivered by an instrument or by the chiropractor’s hands. The chiropractor has to be skilled in finding out where in space this bone has moved and move it back to optimize the function of that structure.
